The school life of a trainee is an important and full of life experience. It provides the trainee with an opportunity to develop not only academically, but also socially. CIT has a responsibility as part of the holistic education of its graduates to prepare trainees for eventual entry into the work force or and entrepreneurship.
In addition, it is also the responsibility of CIT to educate the student about the nature of the work force and the trainee’s potential place in it, and how the course of study pursued may eventually affect his/her place in the work force.
The Office of Career services provides immediate assistance one may need to maximize his or her capacity to begin a career.
There is need for strategies towards seamless transition from learning to earning. The Office of Career Services (OCS) has a critical role to play in this regard.
Beyond the academic qualification, one therefore must be well prepared for the workforce by ensuring they are updated on their current career, have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, be self-confident, act as a team player, have excellent communication skills, possess time management abilities, have better problem-solving skills, and generally show commitment towards the success of the organization he/she is expecting to work for (Mishra, 2014).
Strategies set by the Office of Career Services to achieve this include: counseling services, student/industry linkages, apprenticeships, career fairs, recruitments, venture capitals and graduate-tracker services.
We look to empower trainees to make right career choices.

Today we mark another milestone in the history of Coast Institute of Technology as we celebrate the 9th Graduation ceremony. The Institute wishes to join parents and guardians and the entire CIT community to congratulate the Graduands for their hard work and having successfully completed and passed in their various courses. We all wish them God's blessings, guidance and success in their after-college-life.
We appreciate in a special way the trainers, the support staff and all other stakeholders for their commitment and sacrifice in guiding these great women and men we are graduating today. I appreciate the Government through our parent Ministry of Education state department for Vocational, Technical Training, for the support that has tremendously transformed CIT to an exemplary institution in the region. We pride in the diversity of market oriented programmes that target both the formal and informal sectors
For our Graduands, Our future starts in our past but it doesn't end there. Keep learning, be curious, don't give up on your dreams whatever they are, be humble, remain humble and remind yourself that no job or experience is beneath you if you use it as a lesson.
Engineer. Austine Kitololo
Chairman BOG
May I take this special opportunity on behalf of the Board of governors of Coast Institute of Technology and on my own behalf to congratulate our Graduands who are set to receive various qualifications today. I have no doubt the Graduands and the entire CIT staff has worked diligently to attain the success we celebrate today. I salute the parents, guardians, sponsors, and all other stakeholders without whose support this great success would not have been realized.
The Board also wishes to appreciate the Ministry of Education for the continuous guidance and support accorded to this institute.
We believe the Graduands have acquired vital skills, knowledge and attributes which you will fully put to use for a better Kenya. I urge them not forget the good values you acquired during your training, and to go and provide solutions to the many challenges that our society face today; HIV aids, drug abuse, ethnicity, negative politics, violence and all other vises that may disrupt our prosperity as a nation. Be job creators rather than job seekers. I wish you God's blessing as you face the life ahead.

HOD Hospitality and Institutional Management
Madam Laura Abedi
The department was started in 1995 by the government, offering Craft Certificate in Food and Beverage Service and Sales. It received donations of some large and small equipment from GTZ, as a prerequisite to teaching of the course. The department has grown and expanded so that it now offers courses from artisan to diploma levels. As the largest technical college in Taita- Taveta County, Hospitality department has also come up with some part-time courses whose targets are the local women groups and hotels/hospitals/ schools catering staff. The aim of training the local women is to give them knowledge of adding value to the local foods and preservation methods that will ensure healthy feeding and food security for the county.
In 2009, the department received the honours of being made a Centre of Excellence (CEO) in the region in conjunction with the sister department of Tourism- thus being Centre of Excellence in Hospitality and Tourism Management. It is in this same vein that the COE received a grant that enabled it to build and equip Tsavo Sapphire Hotel and a Food Processing Unit. These are intended for learning and production unit purposes where there is a bakery and yoghurt processing units.
Academically, Hospitality management department has continued to shine not only in internal examinations but external also, by being the best performing department of CIT in KNEC examinations, holding first position from 2016 to 2019. The department has also participated in exhibitions where innovations of food and beverage commodities were invented for example Nutritious porridge that was in first position right from regional to national level and also wine.
The department has fully trained manpower that up-hold professionalism in their work. They are employed by the Ministry of Education through the Public Service Commission and the Board of Governors. Our trainees are exposed to high standards of discipline and training. This has enabled them to fit in the job market, by proving to be competent and dependable.
The world has become a small village where traveling has been made easier. This translates to visitors everywhere making it possible to look for hospitality services and facilities, and this beckons the hospitality graduates. It is my sincere hope that the Coast Institute of Technology’s Hospitality Management Department will endeavor to churn out an all-round hospitality graduate who meets the acceptable hospitality global standards
