The school life of a trainee is an important and full of life experience. It provides the trainee with an opportunity to develop not only academically, but also socially. TTNP has a responsibility as part of the holistic education of its graduates to prepare trainees for eventual entry into the work force or and entrepreneurship. In addition, it is also the responsibility of TTNP to educate the student about the nature of the work force and the trainee’s potential place in it, and how the course of study pursued may eventually affect his/her place in the work force. The Office of Career services provides immediate assistance one may need to maximize his or her capacity to begin a career. There is need for strategies towards seamless transition from learning to earning. The Office of Career Services (OCS) has a critical role to play in this regard. Beyond the academic qualification, one therefore must be well prepared for the workforce by ensuring they are updated on their current career, have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, be self-confident, act as a team player, have excellent communication skills, possess time management abilities, have better problem-solving skills, and generally show commitment towards the success of the organization he/she is expecting to work for (Mishra, 2014). Strategies set by the Office of Career Services to achieve this include: counseling services, student/industry linkages, apprenticeships, career fairs, recruitments, venture capitals and graduate-tracker services. We look to empower trainees to make right career choices. |
The office strives to solve issues concerning students to the best of its ability. This is because of the importance that the office attaches to the wellbeing of the students who are the first and very important clients of the college. The office believes that a satisfied trainee is a crucial cog in the success of the institution. As part of its consultancy and advisory services, the office has established partnerships with organisations that offer an array of complementary services. One of these partners is the Higher Education Loans Board popularly known as “HELB”. This is the government body that offers loans and bursaries to needy students aimed at financing their educational pursuits. The office of the Dean of Students facilitates the process of HELB loan and bursary applications in the institution. To date therefore, hundreds of needy students in TTNP have been able to achieve their educational dreams through the support of HELB whose slogan is “Empowering Dreams”. Furthermore, trainees are also assisted to access and benefit other financial assistance courtesy of entities such as the County loans and bursary boards. The office is always eager and ready to go out of its way to ensure that the government’s policy of 100% transition in education is achieved. In the endeavor of creating peace and harmony in TTNP, the Dean’s office has been bequeathed with the extra mandate of resolving complaints. Under the Performance Contracting, the office oversees the indicator of Resolving public complaints. To this end, there are established complaints resolution mechanisms that enhance harmonious co-existence in the college. Overall, the office of the Dean of Students supports the provision of quality service to all stakeholders of the institution. In the pursuit of excellent service delivery in TTNP, the clarion call for the office is: “Service to mankind is service to God”

The history of Taita Taveta National Polytechnic dates back to 1981 when a group of ten visionary leaders from Taita raised funds to purchase a 42 Acre piece of prime land from African Tourism Development Company Limited for the purpose of starting an institute of technology. It is established in a dynamic education zone in Voi in the coastal mainland, a historic area where the oldest missionary church in Kenya was first built. It is also known to have the first airstrip built in early 1900 in Maktau and used during the second world war in the fight between German and British troops. Situated in the Semi-arid region (ASAL area), the institution has transformed through intensive beautification programme and is attractively nestled in a greeny tree compound in the neighbourhood of Tsavo East National Park. |
