Welcome to Taita Taveta National Polytechnic, a hub of excellence, innovation, and opportunity located in Voi Town.
Since our founding in 1981, the Polytechnic has evolved from a small technical institution into one of Kenya’s leading National Polytechnics. This transformation underscores our dedication to providing quality technical and vocational education that empowers learners to become self-reliant and globally competitive.
Our motto, “Skills for Self-Reliance,” is the cornerstone of our philosophy. We believe that true development begins with equipping individuals with the right skills, mindset, and innovation capacity to shape their own futures and contribute meaningfully to national growth.
As a Qualification Awarding Institution (QAI), TTNP now has the mandate to design, accredit, and award its own qualifications. This achievement positions us as a leader in Kenya’s TVET landscape, ensuring that our programs remain current, competency-based, and aligned to industry needs.
We are also proud pioneers in Dual TVET, a model that integrates institutional learning with real-world industry experience. Through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), we validate skills acquired outside formal training — making education accessible to all, including workers and artisans with valuable experience.
Our partnerships with GIZ, Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan), and other industry collaborators enrich our programs with international perspectives. TTNP’s active participation in robotics competitions, innovation fairs, and exhibitions continues to showcase the creativity and technical excellence of our trainees.
As a Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality, we have training restaurants that blend learning with service. Additionally, our new programs in Gemology and Sustainable Agriculture address both local and global opportunities for our graduates.
We have also embraced technology through our Open, Distance, and eLearning (ODeL) platform, which provides flexible access to learning via Moodle LMS, and through the Jitume ICT Laboratory, where trainees acquire digital skills and engage in online work. Our French Resource Centre further broadens international engagement and cultural exchange.
TTNP’s progress is guided by a competent Governing Council, a dedicated management team, and over 140 qualified trainers who continually enhance their skills through KATTI, KSG, KEMI, and KSTVET training programs. The implementation of our five-year Strategic Plan and performance contracting ensures accountability, innovation, and sustainable institutional growth.
As we look to the future, TTNP remains steadfast to nurture competent, innovative, and ethical graduates capable of driving Kenya’s industrial and social transformation.
To all our stakeholders — students, staff, partners, and the community — I thank you for your continued trust and collaboration. Together, we will continue to make Taita Taveta National Polytechnic a model of excellence and a beacon of Skills for Self-Reliance.
